Psychotics deserve better

Psychotics deserve better. Better than what? Better than a lot of things.


We deserve better than the board-and-care home structure of care that has been left in the wake of deinstitutionalization that is so often neglectful.


We deserve better that the deinstitutionalization that started under Kennedy and continues to this day.


We deserve better than the bed restraints that kill dozens of people every year.


We deserve better than the psychotic killer stereotype that demonizes millions of people.


We deserve better than parents of psychotic children loosing custody of said children in order to get them into residential treatment.


It can seem hopeless. What can we do?


Live out loud. I’m serious. Be open about your psychosis. Talk about it casually. The more people see us as human the more people will care.


Talk about about the issues affecting psychotics to your non-psychotic friends and family. Get them to care.


If you can, get involved in mental health advocacy. We need more actual psychotics advocating for psychotics.


Change starts with us.
